Natural peanut butter and chia seeds.

That’s what I was eating yesterday. It probably doesn’t sound that appetizing. And to some people, it seems downright gross. But I absolutely love peanut butter. I always have. When I was growing up in my parents’ household, I’d consume spoonful after spoonful for a hearty snack.

Still today, I enjoy a tablespoon of peanut butter at least once daily except when I’m fasting. I currently eat the “Teddie” brand, which doesn’t have any added sugar or artificial ingredients.

The kids don’t really like my peanut butter; neither does my husband Kenya. They think it tastes bland. I think it’s perfect.

You see, I used to eat Jif, but when I started cutting back on sugar, I looked for foods that didn’t have any added sugar.

Too bad Jif didn’t make the cut.

I’ll admit, however, at first, after switching to all natural peanut butter, my tongue wasn’t happy. It honestly did taste kind of gross to me, like it was missing something. But after a while, my taste buds adjusted to the flavor. Now I can’t stand Jif because it tastes too sweet. The sugar seems overpowering.

As I grow older and more conscientious about what goes into my body, I look for healthy alternatives to my favorites. For example, I choose an all-natural sweetener instead of sugar. It’s called stevia. It’s easy to make small changes like, instead of putting refined sugar in your tea, use honey.

Honey is so delicious and it’s even sweeter than sugar.

But you know what? I know something that’s even sweeter than honey.

Psalm 19:10 NIV says that the divine principles and decrees found in the word of God are “sweeter than honey, than honey from the honeycomb.” When you keep His precepts, or, in other words, follow the principles laid out in the word of God, your life will be so much richer and sweeter.

In Psalm 19:11 (CSB), the psalmist says “there is an abundant reward” waiting for those who have submitted to God, placed their confidence in Him and obeyed His word.

Perhaps you have been feeling discouraged lately because you have been going through great turmoil and a tremendous amount of trouble. Life is anything but sweet right now. You don’t necessarily feel like you are being rewarded either.

You wonder, where is my harvest? Where is my breakthrough? When will all these issues get resolved? How come I have been waiting so long and don’t see anything changing for the better?

When I was sick for years, I felt like that, too. My soul was weary. But I yet believed God’s word was true. And at the appointed time, He completely healed my body and turned it around for me.

At this moment, you could be feeling like the writer of Psalm 69:3 NLT, who said, “I am exhausted from crying for help; my throat is parched. My eyes are swollen with weeping, waiting for my God to help me.”

The psalmist in Psalm 119:81-82 GNT said this: I am worn out, Lord, waiting for you to save me; I place my trust in your word. My eyes are tired from watching for what you promised, while I ask, ‘When will you help me?’”

When will you help me?

That’s what we all want to know in our distress. But here’s what you have to do: trust God anyway. Be confident anyway. If you notice, in Psalm 119:81, although the writer said he was worn out, there’s something else he said also that I don’t want to skim over.

He said, “I place my trust in your word.”

This is the key to everything: trust! It is okay to feel tired and worn out, but trust God's word anyway. It’s natural to cry. I sure did. A lot. But trust God anyway. It’s not unusual to feel weary of soul, but trust the Lord’s purpose for your life.

When you keep trusting and holding fast to His promises, in due time, He will do just what He said He would. God’s word never tells us we won’t ever be sick and tired of being sick and tired. The scriptures don’t say we won’t ever feel worn out. But the word of God does say in Hebrews 10:23, that regardless of how long it takes, “God can be trusted to keep his promise.”

He’s going to do it.

God’s word is like a certified check. You know you can take it to the bank so-to-speak and receive just what it promises. God’s account is good. It’s never in a deficit. There is always a surplus. And when the right time comes, you will see the manifestation of the promises He has given you.

In good times and bad, trust His word. When your body is aching and doctors give you a bad report, trust His word. When you don’t see any way possible out of this wilderness, trust God’s word.

As some folks say, you’ve got to know that you know He will! I know for myself that there is no failure in God. He will perform His word.

He will heal your body. He will restore your marriage. He will increase your finances. He will save your loved one. He will open a door for a new job. He will see to it that you get a house. He will favor you for placing your hope in His word. So cry if you must, but believe with all your heart, without any doubt, that our God cannot lie.

To remind you of this truth, I’m stirring the latter portion of Jeremiah 1:12 ESV into your cup of inspiration, which says, “…for I am watching over my word to perform it.” In the New Living Translation, it says, “I will certainly carry out all my plans."

As you drink down the contents of your cup, know this: you may not be certain about when or how it will get done, but you know who will do it—and He never fails to make good on His promises.

I’ll leave you with this: “The Scripture says, No man who believes in Him [who adheres to, relies on, and trusts in Him] will [ever] be put to shame or be disappointed.” Romans 10:11 (AMP)

Now let’s pray.

God, no matter what it seems like, I know You reward faith. There is a harvest for me, for I believe every word You have spoken and every promise You have made will come to pass. You are a faithful God in every circumstance. You have never lied nor have You ever failed. So instead of worrying and fretting over how things look, I will cling to Your word and place my hope in You alone, the One who is ever-faithful and ever-true. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
