God’s power will be revealed

When I was younger, I spent hours in my bedroom alone reading books. I have always loved getting lost in good stories. As a teen, they were a distraction from whatever unpleasant realities I was facing or simply a welcome escape from the ordinariness of life.

Though I liked well-written fiction, nothing captured me like the stories in the Bible. Although I didn’t understand how to pronounce every name or interpret the King James Version, my heart was arrested. The more I read, the more I wanted to know about the great God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. I wondered if God would ever reveal Himself to me the way He did with Moses. Would I ever see a miracle? Did He still do unexplainable things as He did in Bible days?

I had heard others say God no longer worked miracles. But I guess it’s easy to say that when you’ve never seen it happen in your day. But something deep within, wouldn’t let me believe that—even before I witnessed the miraculous.

I would often fast and rise early at around six o’clock in the morning to pray.

“Show me Your glory!” I’d cry out urgently, sincerely and passionately. I’ll admit that I didn’t know what I was asking. All I knew is I wanted to experience God’s power and feel the Holy Spirit moving in me. In the Old Testament, the word for Spirit is ruach. It is the very power, breath, force and life of God. In the New Testament, the word for it is pneuma.

Isaiah 11:2 ESV said of the Messiah, “The Spirit of the LORD will rest on him—the Spirit of wisdom and of understanding, the Spirit of counsel and of might, the Spirit of the knowledge and fear of the LORD.”

Scripture indeed shows us that the Spirit of the Lord, or “Ruach Yahweh,” rested upon the Messiah. Christ demonstrated this power through His mighty acts. He healed the sick. He taught the word of God. He raised the dead and ultimately, saved lost souls, and redeemed mankind back to God through His blood.

The awesome news is, God is working at this very moment. God yet heals. He yet redeems. He yet moves by His power. The ruach, the pneuma, the power of God is very much alive. How do I know? I’ve seen Him work in me.

He breathed the breath of life back into me when doctors lost hope. At my lowest point, in the midst of my greatest suffering, the Spirit of the Lord gave me life. He answered the question I first pondered in my teens: will I ever see a miracle?

Not only have I seen a miracle; I am a miracle. For that I give Him glory.

Friend, if you need a miracle, you can have it. Believe God. Maybe others have given up hope, or you, yourself, have lost hope. Today, through this word, if You’ll allow Him to, God will strengthen your faith. He will reassure you that the ruach, the pneuma, the Spirit of God is real. He will breathe upon you as He did the dry, lifeless bones in the valley. In Ezekiel 37:10 (God’s Word Translation), the Prophet said, “So I prophesied as he commanded me, and the breath entered them. Then they came to life and stood on their feet…”

Right now, God is prophesying to you through this word as He did with those dry bones. His power will be revealed in your life. He is breathing new life into your situation. He is watering your dry place. The forceful winds of life may have temporarily knocked you down, but, by the forceful wind of the Holy Spirit, you will rise again. You will stand on your feet and become evidence that Ruach Yahweh—the same power that rested on Christ— rests upon you.

Let not your soul be weary and discouraged. Smile and rejoice. Expect God to do the impossible. The Lord is righting what’s wrong; restoring what’s broken; rebuilding what’s destroyed; and reviving what’s dead.

His power will be revealed because His spirit already lives in you and is working through you. To remind you of this truth, I’m stirring the first half of Acts 1:8 NLT into your cup of inspiration, which says, “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you.”

As you drink down the contents of your cup, despite what may be going wrong, know that the Spirit of God has already equipped, empowered and emboldened you. You will overcome this. You will see the mighty hand of God at work, moving in your favor, and causing everything in your life to line up with His predestined purpose.

Be encouraged. There is hope. For wherever the power of God is alive and active, change happens.

Now let’s pray.

God, the odds may not be in my favor, but I know Your power is working. In times when I feel tempted to focus on what is coming against me, please remind me that the Spirit of God rests upon me. And I can do all things through You, my Savior. I am more than a conqueror. By Your power, I know without any doubt that I am victorious in all things. In Jesus name, Amen.

As always, thanks for reading and until next time... may today's cup of inspiration uplift, encourage, and empower you!
