Keep on digging

It was so aggravating. The water in the sink took forever to drain. What was going on? The day before, everything was working fine. The next day, there was no whirlpool, just stagnated liquid.

“The water won’t go out of the sink,” I told my husband Kenya, exasperated. He, just as I did, suspected something was clogging the drain. So under the sink he went.

A while later, he called out to me. I went into the Master Bathroom where he was.

“Look,” he said.

“Wow, all that was in there?” I replied frowning as I eyed the huge ball of sopping wet hair he’d dislodged. It looked pretty gross. Once that buildup was removed, however, and I turned the water faucet on, the whirlpool was back, sucking the water down rapidly.

Yay! No more standing water in the sink. I was so happy. After all, nobody likes it when things are clogged. Not drains. Not ears. Not pores. Not even water wells, like the ones that wound up being clogged up in the days of Isaac in Genesis 26.

Let me explain.

God told Isaac to go to foreign territory and the Lord would bless him as a result of his obedience. So Isaac obeyed the Lord and headed to a place called Gerar. Once there, despite the divine command to go, there were still enemies present. The Philistines were there, and they eventually targeted Isaac’s abundant harvest. Friend, even in the place of promise there will be problems; but those issues cannot stop your blessings.

According to verses 12-13, right in the midst of his enemies, “When Isaac planted his crops that year, he harvested a hundred times more grain than he planted, for the Lord blessed him. He became a very rich man, and his wealth continued to grow.”

Things looked pretty good at first, but then, things took a nosedive. His whirlpool-like flow of blessings stagnated because, verse 14 says, the Philistines became jealous of Isaac’s riches. They literally threw dirt into all the wells he’d inherited from his father, Abraham. His father’s servants had dug those wells. They belonged to Isaac. But to appease their own anger and jealousy, the Philistines strategically clogged up those wells, hoping to stop the flow of Isaac’s blessings. But not one person on earth nor a single devil in hell can stop the flow of the blessings God has ordained for you. Whatever the enemy tries, always remember, what God has for you is for you!

According to verse 16, the blessings the Lord showered upon Isaac were so numerous that King Abimelech, the ruling monarch in that region, told Isaac, “Go somewhere else for you have become too powerful for us.”

How awful.

Isaac had worked hard and sowed seeds in that land, only to be met with opposition, and thrown out. That probably didn’t make much sense or seem fair to him. Why would God let him be kicked out of us his place of harvest? Why would he have to leave all those seeds he had sown behind?

Well, God had something better in store. Isaac left and went to Gerar Valley. There, he re-dug the wells. Twice, even in his new location, the Philistines threw dirt in those wells. But you know what? Isaac didn’t stop digging. And finally, the third time around, there was no fight or opposition. So Isaac called that undisputed, unclogged well “Rehoboth,” which means broad places or open space. He said in verse 22, “For now the Lord has made room for us, and we shall be fruitful in the land.” The New Living Translation says it this way: “At last the Lord has created enough space for us to prosper in this land.”

Somebody reading this doesn’t understand why you’ve lost some things; why the enemy has been attacking you in your current place; or why God is forcing you to move on. But I’m here to tell you that, through this, the Lord is simply creating more space for you to prosper.

You’re about to see God give you more, better, and greater. You’re going to get some relief from the attack of the enemy. Though you may not see it right now, do what Isaac did, and keep on digging. In other words, keep on pushing through the opposition. Don’t give up.

Dig your heels in, and dig down deep into your soul, and press on. Even when the enemy is throwing dirt on you, dig. When Satan is trying his best to stop your flow of blessings, dig. When it seems like you aren’t making any progress, dig. When you feel tired, discouraged, and confused about what God is doing, dig anyway.

God is going to enlarge you, restore what the enemy tried to steal from you, and make space for you to prosper. You will see God’s favor. He is waving His mighty hand of deliverance over your situation.

Right now, as I stand in faith with you for increase, breakthrough, deliverance and fruitfulness, I’m stirring Psalm 115:14-15 NKJV into your cup of inspiration, which says, “May the Lord give you increase more and more, you and your children. May you be blessed by the Lord, who made heaven and earth.”

As you drink down the contents of your cup, prepare for the manifestation of your Rehoboth, the place where God makes room for you to be fruitful. Again, in the meantime, dig. I guarantee you will reap the harvest the Lord has ordained for you.

Now let’s pray.

God, thank You for increase! I know the enemy has been trying to block my harvest, but I rejoice that, this year, no one can stop what You have for me. Despite what’s going on, I believe that I will get all You have for me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

As always, thanks for reading and until next time... may today's cup of inspiration uplift, encourage, and empower you!
