Choose faith over everything!

When I was a little girl, I thought my daddy was so cool because he could speak a made-up, secret language known as Pig Latin. To speak the language fluently, my siblings and I practiced and practiced. Initially, it was hard to learn, but once I got it, I was psyched!

Pig Latin requires taking the consonant at the beginning of the word, moving it to the end of the word and adding the “ay” sound. That’s it. It’s simple.

For example, food is ood-fay. Door is oor-day. My name, Dianna, is ianna-day. Boo is oo-bay.

As silly as it was and is, years ago when I first mastered the language, you couldn’t tell me I wasn’t awesome and special. It was an accomplishment! Despite receiving neither a reward nor a medal for learning Pig Latin, bragging rights were enough for me.

These days, I no longer focus on such trivial things as being fluent in Pig Latin, because my attention is on mastering a different language known as the language of faith.

What exactly is the language of faith, you ask?

Well, how about I begin by explaining what the language of faith is not? It is not the language of negativity, fear, worry, anxiety, doubt, or even the language of our emotions.

Friend, our feelings and our faith rarely match up!

Speaking the language of faith means confessing the word of God and declaring His promises in every circumstance. Each day, ask yourself, am I speaking the language of faith or fear?

When I came home from the hospital in 2019, the language of fear took over my mind and emotions. My medical team told me this was to be expected because Brain Trauma, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and Anxiety have that affect. Despite their explanation, I wasn’t used to the barrage of negative, toxic, and anxious thoughts! It seemed like negativity was all my brain manufactured, and it was a constant daily fight. Still is.

In my worst moments, the language of fear doesn’t only exist in mind; it begins overflowing and pouring out of my mouth. In times like this, I’ll hear myself saying, I can never do anything right, I’m so stupid, and a bunch of other horrible things that pronounce death instead of life over my destiny.

But one day, God spoke to me clearly and told me to get my mouth in check and put faith over everything. Did you get that? Faith over everything. Faith over fear. Faith over anxiety. Faith no matter what.

It’s not easy because toxic thoughts invade my brain regularly. And whether you have a brain injury or not, I know you can relate to battling negative thinking.

We are not unique. In Exodus 14, the Israelites battled it, too. During their escape from Egyptian slavery, negative thinking took over their minds and mouths when Pharaoh chased them down, regretting having let them go. This Egyptian ruler came after Israel full force with six hundred of his best chariots and all the other chariots of Egypt.

When the Israelites felt trapped by the Red Sea in front of them and Pharaoh’s army behind them, they started crying out in distress. They began speaking the language of fear.

They told Moses in verses 10-12 MSG, “Weren’t the cemeteries large enough in Egypt so that you had to take us out here in the wilderness to die? What have you done to us, taking us out of Egypt? Back in Egypt didn’t we tell you this would happen? Didn’t we tell you, ‘Leave us alone here in Egypt—we’re better off as slaves in Egypt than as corpses in the wilderness’”

Whoa. They were speaking toxic words, lobbying to be slaves, and rallying against the man God sent to deliver them in favor of returning to bondage.

Yikes!

But this is what fear will do to you; it will drive you backward instead of forward. In verse 15, God said to Moses, “Why are you crying out to me? Tell the Israelites to move on.”

God already knew He would work a miracle by parting the Red Sea, enabling the Israelites to cross on dry land, and drowning the Hebrews’ pursuers. But Israel couldn’t see the way forward because they were blinded by toxic thoughts produced by fear and anxiety.

Fear and anxiety will cause you to panic and focus on the problem rather than activating your faith and focusing on the problem-solver. But God wants you and me to choose faith over everything and refuse to allow doubt, worry and fear to dictate our thoughts, words, and actions.

Practice and practice every day to master the language of faith. Be deliberate and intentional about what you say. Speak healing where there is sickness. Speak provision where there is lack. Speak peace where there is confusion. Speak joy where there is depression and anxiety. Speak strength where there is weakness. Speak victory where there is opposition. Speak deliverance where there is bondage. Speak hope where there is hopelessness. Speak faith over every negative emotion, and move forward in the things God has called you to do.

It is time to advance, make progress, and thrive. Fear will hold you back, but faith will move you forward. That’s why you’ve got to place faith above everything. Above every circumstance. Above every obstacle. Above every lie of the enemy. Above every hindrance. When you do that, you will see breakthrough. You will see supernatural release. You will see miracles. You will see God go above and beyond for you.

To remind you of the power of what you say, I’m stirring Proverbs 18:21 MSG into your cup of inspiration which says, “Words kill, words give life; they’re either poison or fruit—you choose.”

As you drink down the contents of your cup, choose the language of faith. Remember that the power of life and death is in your tongue. The fruit of what you speak will show up in your life, because your words are a manifestation of what’s in your heart (Luke 6:45).

Fear and anxiety will paralyze you. On the other hand, when you tap into your faith, God will give you power to move forward and walk right into a miraculous season of breakthrough.

Believe this and receive it.

Now, let’s pray.

God, fear, worry, anxiety, and negativity frequently come to overtake me and control my thoughts, my words, and my actions. But today, I cast off fear and declare that I will live by faith in Your word and believe Your promises above all else. Despite what issues I am facing or what circumstances look like, I choose to trust You. For, I know You are faithful and will do the impossible for me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
