INTRODUCTION

There are some promises, breakthroughs, and harvests that you must wait a long time to receive. But then, there are those God-ordained seasons when He cancels the wait, allows you to skip the line, and does things quicker and better than you expected. This word of encouragement is to assure somebody that you’re about to step into your Ephesians 3:20—exceedingly, abundantly, above—time of manifestation. Get ready for great things.

Growing up in church, First Sunday was Communion Sunday, a sacred time that taught me the power of commemorating Jesus’ death. Adorned in a long black robe, the pastor—my dad—would say, “Drink ye all of it,” in an extra deep and somber voice. That meant it was time to drink whatever was in the small plastic cup.

Until I was old enough to participate, I’d just watch the adults and older kids, feeling eager for my turn. When the day finally arrived for me to receive my first Communion, I was so excited. Then, immediately after swallowing the drink, my initial thoughts were, Hey!  Jesus’ blood tastes like Welch’s grape juice. How is that possible?

See, I had heard others talk about eating the bread and drinking the wine and (wrongly) assumed I’d be getting a taste of alcohol. Bless my little heart. Dad explained to me that some churches did, in fact, use fermented wine but not us. With that new information, I adjusted my expectations and accepted that Welch’s grape juice and the actual blood of Christ had the same flavor profile.

Kids.

I’ve grown up quite a bit since then, and I know that the most important thing is not what’s in the cup but what it represents: the blood of the covenant that was poured out to forgive our sins (Matthew 26:26-29). And since, according to the word of God, life is in the blood, we can rejoice that when Jesus shed His blood for us, instantly, He delivered us from death and gave us new life. You and I have a reason to praise on that!

Wine being symbolic of life through Christ’s blood makes me think about Jesus’ first spectacular public miracle: turning water into wine at the wedding of Cana (John 2).

This miraculous sign of Christ’s divinity was also a foreshadowing of how Jesus, the Bridegroom, would shed His blood for His Bride, the Church. Fascinatingly, the Kingdom of Heaven is even compared to a wedding banquet in Matthew 22:2, so the Messiah was making a powerful point that day.

The new wine Jesus provided after the guests ran out tasted better than the old wine they’d been drinking. Though this is amazing, it isn’t all that surprising, since the book of Hebrews – one of my many favorites – hammers home an important point: Jesus does everything better.

Everything.

Did you know that the word better occurs 13 times throughout Hebrews? Sure does. And I just love how this book explains the ways in which Jesus’ new covenant of grace is superior to the old covenant of the law.

In this context, then, it is not at all shocking that at the wedding celebration, Jesus’ wine had a better flavor profile, right? It is impressive, though. Considering that wine experts, known as sommeliers, agree that the longer wine ages, the more delicious it tastes, technically, Jesus’ wine should not have been better. But the Savior, who was God wrapped in flesh, made higher quality wine without the luxury of the natural aging process that would have otherwise required months or years.

Jesus did it so much better that when the master of the house tasted the divine wine, he said, “You saved the best for last!”

And listen, friend. The same Jesus who did things quicker and better in Bible days still does things quicker and better today; this is precisely what He’s going to do for you.

God has better in store for you. Not only that, but some things are going to happen faster than you’re thinking. Bigger blessings, greater favor, better opportunities, and quicker turnarounds are on the way. You’re not reading this devotion by accident; God is sending you a message.

He’s confirming for you that the same Jesus who turned water to wine also turns disease into wholeness. He turns lack into abundance. Long waits into instant breakthroughs. Wildernesses into Promised Lands. Tragedies into triumphs. Defeats into victories. And I just know in my spirit, He’s going to do it for you.

By faith, declare, “Quicker and better is on the way for me.” And so, it is!

Today, I am speaking a blessing over you and stirring a promise into your cup of inspiration found in Isaiah 8:11: “The LORD will guide you continually, and satisfy your soul in drought, and strengthen your bones; You shall be like a watered garden, and like a spring of water, whose waters do not fail.”

As you drink down the contents of your cup, I am rejoicing that you are connected to this ministry and are here to receive this word. For, there are some problems in your life that should take a long time to rectify, improve, and turn around, but they won’t.
