Good Friday
Happy Good Friday! Though we call this day good and celebrate it as joyful, it is indeed a solemn day because we focus on the suffering Jesus Christ endured on the cross of Calvary. On Good Friday, we look at the ugliness, pain and horror of crucifixion while giving thanks to God that Christ willingly gave His own life to save ours.
Today, meditate on how wonderful it is that Jesus paid the price for our sins and freed us from the penalty of sin. This is called Substitutionary Atonement which simply means that Christ, the innocent, spotless one, became the substitute for sinners by being penalized in our place. The fact that Christ died to satisfy the justice of God and allow us to escape punishment is nothing short of awe-inspiring!
Here are 4 Scriptures I’m meditating on today, and I invite you to do the same.
Galatians 3:13: “But Christ has rescued us from the curse pronounced by the law. When he was hung on the cross, he took upon himself the curse for our wrongdoing. For it is written in the Scriptures, ‘Cursed is everyone who is hung on a tree.’”
Isaiah 53:5: “But he was pierced for our rebellion, crushed for our sins. He was beaten so we could be whole. He was whipped so we could be healed.”
1 Peter 2:24: “He personally carried our sins in his body on the cross so that we can be dead to sin and live for what is right. By his wounds you are healed.”
Colossians 2:14: “He canceled the record of the charges against us and took it away by nailing it to the cross.”
With all the other things going on in the world, let us not forget to reverence Christ, acknowledge His preeminence, appreciate His sacrifice and rejoice that Sunday—Resurrection Day—is coming!
Now, let’s pray.
God, thank You for Your son Jesus and how He gave His life to save mine. Help me to live in such a way that honors His sacrifice and brings glory to Your name. For the rest of my life, I am devoted to You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
