The Lord reigns even when it rains
“The LORD reigns forever, your God, O Zion, for all generations. Praise the LORD.” (Psalm 146:10)
I woke up early this morning at about 5 o’clock. I was reading Scripture and paused on this one. A thought came to me that has comforted me in times past, particularly in seasons of difficulty. This is the thought, which was inspired by God: When it rains in your life, remember Who reigns over your life. God is in control.”
He is in control of all things, despite things appearing out of control.
When I was sick and in the hospital recently, life definitely felt out of control for me. Doctors couldn’t regulate me, and no medicine, no matter how potent, could stop the seizures or restore my bodily functions. But I remembered, in the midst of the physical, mental, spiritual, and emotional hardship, that God still reigned on the throne, in all His majesty, and He was yet in control. That helped get me through!
Maybe your health is out of control. The bills are out of control. Your job situation is out of control. Your children are out of control. Your marriage is out of control. Your mind and emotions are out of control. A loved one’s situation is out of control. Perhaps lots of negative circumstances are out of control—too many to count even.
If this is the case, remember the words of the psalmist. Know that the Lord reigns in all His majesty and power for all generations. At a moment’s notice, Jesus can calm that sea of trouble, just as He did when the storm rose as He and the disciples were on the Sea of Galilee (Matthew 8:23-27).
Before things regulate, though you can’t see your way, trust that God knows what He’s doing. Then, do what the highlighted verse of the day, Psalm 146:10, prescribes: praise the Lord. He is truly worthy in good times and bad.
Now let’s pray.
God, my life feels out of control, and I don’t know what to do about some of the pressing, concerning issues I’m facing. But I am giving it all over to You. Please help me recall Your word in difficult times and remember that You reign and are my shelter from the rain. I abandon every fear and worry, and I run into Your arms knowing You are taking care of me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
