One of Those Frustrating Days

Some days the clouds roll in and the light feels distant. In this raw and honest devotional, Dianna Hobbs shares her own struggle with TBI symptoms while reminding us of a powerful truth: God works most visibly through our weaknesses. If you're feeling frustrated, overwhelmed, or stuck, this message is for you.

Can I be honest?

I’m frustrated today.

So, so frustrated.

Arrghh!

You know those days when everything feels like it’s pushing against you? That’s exactly where I am right now. I’m especially frustrated because my traumatic brain injury is making it nearly impossible to focus—one of its most aggravating symptoms that loves to show up uninvited.

For those who don’t know, difficulty focusing with a TBI is like trying to tune into one radio station while a dozen others are blaring at the same time. Your brain simply refuses to stay on task, and don’t even get me started on trying to follow conversations in noisy places.

So imagine my reaction when God nudged me to blog.

Like, seriously, God? Right now? When my brain feels like scrambled eggs?

"Right now," He answered.

"Why?" I asked, probably sounding a little whiny (just keeping it real).

His response hit me hard:

"Because you’re not the only one going through something frustrating, and I never want you to become the kind of person who takes more pleasure in showcasing triumphs than scars. Your weaknesses give Me the most glory."

Well… can’t argue with that.

So here I am, friend—frustrated. And though I’d much rather be posting about sunshine and rainbows, I know God’s right (duh, of course He is).

Maybe you’re in your own season of frustration. Maybe it’s your health acting up, your bank account looking sad, a relationship falling apart, a stalled career, or dreams that seem to be collecting dust. Perhaps you’re weary from waiting for answers to prayers that feel like they’re bouncing off the ceiling.

Here’s the thing—and this is where God’s been gently nudging my heart today: Our weaknesses aren’t accidents. They’re opportunities. The Apostle Paul understood this long before we did.

He wrote:

"But he said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.” —2 Corinthians 12:9 (NIV)

Isn’t it fascinating how God works? He takes our messiest moments—like me sitting here with a brain that won’t cooperate—and turns them into connection points with others who are struggling. He uses our "I can’t" moments to showcase His "I can."

God transforms our limitations into demonstrations of His strength. Our impossible is God’s stage for revealing His infinite power.
— Dianna Hobbs

As I reflected on 2 Corinthians 12:9, God reminded me of a devotion I once wrote breaking down this verse. Twice in this passage, the Greek word Dunamis, meaning miraculous power, might, and strength, appears.

Now, let’s plug its meaning right into the text:

"But he said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my miraculous power, might, and strength is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s miraculous power, might, and strength may rest on me."

That really brings the Word to life here, doesn’t it?

So today, if you’re feeling frustrated, overwhelmed, or stuck, remember this: Your weakness isn’t a roadblock to God’s purpose—it’s a highway for His miraculous power, might, and strength to show up.

If you find yourself in a valley season, wishing you were on the mountaintop, God sent me to challenge and change your perspective. The message is clear and simple: He is allowing this season, not to break you, but to reveal His power and bring Him glory.

When we experience lack, He reveals His power as a Provider. When we battle sickness, He shows His power as a Healer.

When storms rage, He demonstrates His power to calm them. When we suffer loss, He manifests His power to restore.

And if you need proof of His power, look no further than this very post. The fact that I, in my most scatterbrained state, somehow managed to write something cohesive is all Him. That’s what brings Him glory—not that I can write, but that He can write through me when I feel like I can’t.

God just wants to show off in our lives. And though He doesn’t cause our frustrations, He does cause them to work for our good—and, most importantly, for His glory.

That’s why I’m stirring Romans 8:28 KJV as the sweetener in your cup of inspiration, which says, “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.”

As you drink down the contents of your cup, may you be reminded that our problems are simply platforms for Him to be glorified. God doesn’t need us to have it all together. In fact, it’s better when we don’t, so He can reveal His superpower—bringing everything together when it all seems to be falling apart.

So on your frustrated days, acknowledge your frustration while trusting that He remains faithful.

Keep pushing forward, even when it’s hard. You’re not alone.

I’m right here with you, and I love you.

Now, let’s pray together.

God, thank You for being bigger than our frustrations. Thank You for using our weaknesses as showcases for Your strength! In moments of discouragement, please remind us that You are working—even when we can’t focus, understand, or see the way forward—bringing everything together for our good. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
