Be bold. Ask for help.
The other day, my daughter Kaiah misplaced her cell phone. She asked everyone in the house if they had seen it and none of us had. After looking everywhere with no success, Kaiah was frustrated. A while later, she came running into my bedroom with a big smile on her face.
“I found my phone!” she exclaimed, and then she explained the clever way she accomplished this. Kaiah used the “Google Assistant” feature on her phone that allows her to talk to her device. Whenever she says, “OK Google,” she can give the phone a command, and it will obey her voice.
Kaiah told me, “I said, ‘Okay Google, sing.’” And her phone began singing, and she followed the sound and found her phone. When Kaiah’s unconventional plan worked, she was so happy and pleased with herself.
“Wow, that’s pretty clever,” I told her. “I would’ve never thought of doing that.”
After my conversation with Kaiah, I thought about how we often feel lost in life because we don’t know the answers to our problems. When we are in need of solutions and don’t have them, the frustration we feel can be overwhelming. But we are free to say, “OK God, I don’t know what to do, and I need Your help right now. Will You please guide me?”
Although we don’t give God commands like we do Google Assistant, we can always ask Him for help, and He is more than happy to assist. Hebrews 4:16 NKJV tells us so. It says, “Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.”
That word “boldly” is the Greek word parrhesia (pronounced par-rhay-see'-ah) which means to speak your mind freely, to be unrestricted, straightforward, frank, and bold. So then, when we are in need of God’s help, the Bible tells us that we can confidently—with reverence, of course—tell the Lord exactly what we need. We should never feel ashamed or worry about being too blunt. God wants us to tell Him openly, honestly, and forthrightly what we need Him to do for us.
Friend, you don’t have to beat around the bush with God. Matthew 6:8 says, “…for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.”
Kaiah told me, the first time she tried the Google Assistant the other day, at first she said, “OK Google, set the timer for five minutes.” Then, Kaiah realized that she was delaying her help for five minutes, because the alarm wouldn’t go off until the amount of time she requested had passed. Kaiah needed help right away, and that’s when she adjusted her request by asking Google to sing.
Perhaps you need help with a situation right away. If so, this message is God’s way of telling you that He wants you to seek Him immediately. Come to Him boldly. Tell Him exactly what you want Him to do. Are you sick and in need of healing? Is a relationship broken and in need of repair? Are you in financial straits and in need of increase? Are you overly-stressed and in need of peace? Is a loved one struggling and in need of deliverance? Is it something else?
Whatever it is, God is sitting on His throne of grace right now. When you cry out to Him, He listens and answers. He is ready, willing and able to heal, restore, provide, comfort, set free, and defeat every enemy for you. From this day forward, be specific about what you need God to do. The confidence You place in Him will be rewarded, and His will shall be done.
Today, I’m stirring Psalm 61:1 KJV into your cup of inspiration, which says, “Hear my cry, O God; attend unto my prayer.”
As you drink down the contents of your cup, take your burdens—whatever they are—to the Lord. Pour out your heart to Him, and He will answer.
Now, let’s pray.
God, thank You for the privilege of coming boldly before Your throne of grace. Thank You for being my present help in my time of need, for hearing me when I call and answering my prayers. I will forever seek Your face and trust in Your faithfulness, whatever the circumstances. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
