God does all things well
As I prepared to write this devotion today, God dropped a scripture in my heart found in 2 Corinthians 4:8 KJV, which says, “We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair.”
Daily Cup family, I have personally been troubled and perplexed as of late, but I am neither in distress nor in despair. The peace of God is ruling in my heart, even as doctors inform me of certain concerns they have regarding my health.
There are days when I feel unwell and exhausted from multiple trips to have screens, scans, bloodwork, biopsies, consultations, and more. I am a guinea pig as of late. I’m constantly being poked and prodded, and told that something serious could be happening.
Could be.
I don’t have definitive answers yet—something I was explaining on my podcast this morning.
Through it all, though I have not been talking much publicly, I have been privately talking to God. Furthermore, I have been meditating on His word, resisting worry and anxiety. I will prayerfully know more in the coming weeks and update you as I am able.
I know I am being tested—both literally and spiritually. So I have been reminiscing on the faith-building miracle the Lord worked for me in 2016. My bloodwork and scans still testify of the supernatural power of God. Those two autoimmune diseases—Rheumatoid Arthritis and Fibromyalgia—that nearly snuffed out my life due to complications, no longer have a hold on me. I am free. And I am comforted by the knowledge that the same God who healed me back then, is walking through this latest process with me. He is more than able to do all things.
In the meantime, as I await answers, I am adopting the mindset and attitude of the Shunammite woman in 2 Kings 4:8-37. In dire circumstances, when her son became suddenly ill and died, she didn’t panic or lose hope. In the midst of it she declared, “It is well”—before God resurrected her son.
That is my declaration, too. It is well, because the Lord does all things well, doesn’t He?
Earlier last week I was speaking to my dad on the phone when He said to me, “Dianna, God does all things well,” and went over the biblical origin of that phrase. These words were spoken by spectators who witnessed Jesus performing a miracle in Mark 7:31-37.
“God doesn’t half-do anything! He delivers completely; restores completely; heals completely — and He can do it instantly. Trust Him, always.”
All the action took place near the Sea of Galilee when some people brought a man, who was unable to hear and barely able to talk, over to Jesus. They asked the Savior to lay hands on him, and Jesus obliged.
The Lord retreated from the crowd and put His fingers in the man’s ear. Then Jesus spit on His own fingers and touched the man’s tongue. Verse 34 says the Savior looked up to heaven and with a deep sigh said to the man, “Ephphatha!” –which, in Aramaic, means “Be opened!”
When Jesus commanded the man’s healing, something spectacular happened: The man’s ears were opened, his tongue was loosened and he began to speak plainly. Everything shifted in an instant! According to verse 37, spectators were overwhelmed with amazement and declared, “He does all things well.”
Oh, yes He does!
And it’s important to keep this truth in mind when you’re going through. That way, when adversity packs a one-two punch, it won’t knock you off your faith foundation. You will rest in God, despite it all, and be comforted by the truth that His power is greater than the trouble you’re facing.
There is never a case too complicated, too advanced, or too big for Him to solve, or resolve. Whatever your day-to-day issues are (or mine for that matter!) God is in control. He is never surprised by what ails us. He is not caught off guard by the sneak attacks of the enemy. The Lord is certainly not out of answers or options. His power is unlimited and inexhaustible, and He specializes in wowing us with His grandiose displays of supernatural authority over all things.
Somebody reading this has been feeling worried, anxious, and stressed. God sent me here just for you, so you will know that He’s got this situation (and you) in the palm of His hand. His favor surrounds you like a shield. He has already declared healing, increase, blessings, and deliverance over you.
To remind you that the God who does all things well is more than capable of fighting your present battle and is working on your behalf, I’m stirring Jeremiah 32:17 NLT into your cup of inspiration, which says, “O Sovereign LORD! You made the heavens and earth by your strong hand and powerful arm. Nothing is too hard for you!”
As you drink down the contents of your cup, rest in the Lord. Put your confidence in Him. Expect to marvel over His miraculous power just as the spectators did in Mark 7.
And know this: You, too, will have an undeniable testimony that His wondrous works never cease, and He does all things well.
Now let’s pray.
God, I have been facing some challenges. The enemy has come against me full force, but I trust You in the midst of the storm. Though things may not be perfect, I am confident that Your way is always perfect. No matter what it looks like, I stand confidently upon Your word and declare that You do all things well. Therefore, it is well with my soul. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
